Merritt Family Manager Terms of Service
Last updated: August 26, 2026
1. Agreement to Terms
By setting up or joining a household in Merritt (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
Merritt is a web application, installable on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, that helps families organize a shared calendar, meal plans, grocery lists, tasks and chores, rewards, and other household activities.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least the age of majority in your province or state of residence to set up or join a household. You may add family members of any age — including children — as entries within your household; those entries are managed by you, not by the child, and a child does not themself enter into these Terms.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your household’s invite code and any linked sign-in credentials, and for all activity that occurs through your household. Notify us promptly at hello@shadowtailapps.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your household.
4. Your Responsibility for Household Data
You are solely responsible for:
- Having the appropriate authority to enter information about other people — including other adults and children — into your household.
- The accuracy of the information you enter.
- Keeping your household’s invite code confidential; anyone who has it can join your household and see its data.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to access another household’s data or circumvent the Service’s security controls, including by guessing or brute-forcing invite codes.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the Service — automated or excessive requests may be rate-limited or blocked.
- Use the Service to store or transmit content that is unlawful, harassing, or infringes another person’s rights.
6. Intellectual Property
The Service itself — its software, design, and branding — is owned by Merritt and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or underlying source code. As between you and Merritt, you retain ownership of the Household Data you enter. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that data solely to provide the Service to you.
7. Fees
Every plan starts with a 2-week free trial. After the trial, Merritt is $5.99/month or $52.49/year. We’ll give advance notice before any pricing change takes effect for existing Family Members.
8. Termination
8.1 By You
You may stop using the Service at any time. To permanently delete your entire household and its data yourself, go to Settings → Privacy & security → Delete household (see our Privacy Policy, Section 7).
8.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or if required by law. Where reasonably possible, we will provide notice first.
8.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 6, 9, 10, and 11 — will survive.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT, EXCEPT AS PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MERRITT WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Merritt harmless from claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of applicable law, or your lack of authority to enter information about another person into the Service.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify Family Members by email (if we have one on file) or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Contact Us
